Staining Puzzle 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
We have a strange puzzle concerning our Ventena, maybe some other users could help us out. Using Red Box control slides, we put the patient and control on the same slide. Most of the time, both come out great, but maybe 5-6% of the time, the patient tissue ends up with no staining at all.

Can anyone help me figure this one out?!

could be a deparaffinization issue. try checking to make sure your slides are being seated correctly on the pad and that it is heating uniformly.

also what kind of slides are you using?

LingTsou, doesn’t appear to be a problem with deparrafinization.

We are using Red Box charged control slides. We have tried using slides with the marks on the underside, but still have the same result. Any other suggestions?

Try using normal slides. Red marks can stop stain from spreading even when on other side. (Get pressed against each other. Mark ruins charge on slides. Creates invisible wall that stops stain)

That seems to have been it! Once I switched to plain slides for my controls the problem went away. Thanks for all the help!
